SCHWING Stetter has been a leader in the field of concrete and its processing for almost 90 years. As the world's leading system house for concrete construction machinery, SCHWING Stetter offers the entire spectrum of ready-mix concrete technology - from production, transportation and placement of the concrete through to recycling. In addition, SCHWING Stetter develops pumping systems for industry and the environment as a second mainstay. SCHWING Stetter has a global presence with production sites in the USA, Brazil, India, Austria, Serbia and Germany and has experienced strong growth in recent years.

‍

" It has become apparent that our suppliers' knowledge of CBAM is still at a very low level when the queries are received. There is little knowledge of the requirements. This is where the supplier training courses are of great value. This makes Tacto truly unique as a provider in the field of CBAM." - Thomas Klatt, Central Purchasing SCHWING Stetter

Initial situation and challenges

‍

‍SCHWING Stetter is affected by the CBAM Regulation as the company has three sites in the EU - two in Germany and one in Austria - which import CBAM-relevant material. These sites are legally independent companies, but belong to the same group of companies and must therefore submit quarterly reports to the authorities.

‍

Specifically, the CBAM relevance and impact results from the fact that SCHWING Stetter has around 25 suppliers in countries outside the EU who supply around 90 CBAM-relevant articles in accordance with the HS Code.

‍

It is foreseeable that the number of suppliers and articles will continue to increase in the near future. Purchasing will continue to source materials from third countries, with the focus at SCHWING Stetter being on China, Turkey and India. In the future, the EU is also very likely to extend the CBAM regulation to other materials and product groups, such as plastic parts. In this case, the impact on SCHWING Stetter, which is currently heavily influenced by iron and steel, would increase considerably in tons.

Expected effort without software solution

‍

Before Tacto was commissioned as a software tool to support CBAM, Thomas Klatt, who works in Central Purchasing at SCHWING Stetter, analyzed how much effort would be required for company-wide CBAM compliance without tool support. The result of the comprehensive analysis showed that without the support of a tool, a full-time employee would be required to implement CBAM alone, which would take around 200 working days per year.

‍

With the support of Tacto, this effort is reduced to just 15 days a year for SCHWING Stetter. SCHWING Stetter has already successfully submitted six quarterly reports with Tacto and is already noticing a considerable reduction in workload thanks to the software.

‍

‍

" With the CBAM solution from Tacto, we save a full-time employee and around €100,000 a year." - Thomas Klatt, Central Purchasing

‍

‍

The time savings of over 90% result from the optimization of various process steps, which are largely automated by Tacto: Clarification of who is affected, supplier queries, evaluation of purchasing documents, evaluation of emissions data, reporting, supplier training, planning of the financial impact and the provision of information on current developments.

‍

‍

" It has become apparent that our suppliers' knowledge of CBAM is still at a very low level when the queries are received. There is little knowledge of the requirements. This is where the supplier training courses are of great value. This makes Tacto truly unique as a provider in the field of CBAM." - Thomas Klatt, Central Purchasing

‍

‍

With Tacto, supplier queries for CBAM can be sent to the relevant suppliers and tracked simply and automatically at the touch of a button. Purchasing documents and emissions data are automatically evaluated, converted into the required XML format for reporting and enriched with standard values. In this way, SCHWING Stetter replaces manual processes with automated and scalable processes. In addition, Tacto conducts training sessions with suppliers to inform them of the requirements and emphasize the importance of cooperation in this context.

‍

‍

" Another major added value for us is the ability to use Tacto to calculate our total cost of ownership (TCO) in order to determine the expected additional costs of CBAM at material level. As sourcing decisions are considered over the long term, the results of these calculations are already being incorporated into our planning." - Thomas Klatt, Central Purchasing

‍

‍

SCHWING Stetter has already completed more than six supplier training courses, which were conducted by Tacto.

‍

‍

Synergies in purchasing

‍

‍

SCHWING Stetter uses Tacto not only for CBAM queries, but also for handling other compliance requirements such as NIS2.

‍

Thanks to the interface with the purchasing department, Tacto offers great synergy effects, which are used strategically and will also be expanded together in the future.
