The EU Commission recently tightened the requirements for CBAM reporting. From 01.08.2024, CBAM reporters must determine and report the actual emissions for each import of goods. This development presents many companies with new challenges in terms of efficient implementation.
In our exclusive live webinar"EU CBAM update: Tightening transparency and effort obligations - STAUFF's approach to meeting the new requirements" with Jörg Maserke, Head of Procurement at STAUFF, and Kendra Benkendorf, CBAM expert at Tacto, we explain how you can efficiently integrate these new regulations into your supply chain strategy.
CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism) is an EU instrument for pricing CO2 emissions from imports of certain goods. It aims to prevent carbon leakage and create a level playing field for EU companies and their global competitors.
The updated requirements include:
1. obligation to determine and report actual emissions for each import of goods from 01.08.2024.
2. evidence of all reasonable efforts to collect data from suppliers or manufacturers if no actual emissions data can be reported.
3. documentation of unsuccessful efforts in the CBAM transition register.
Many SMEs are facing the challenge of implementing these complex requirements. If affected companies do not prepare, there is a risk of serious consequences: products could no longer be imported, fines could be imposed for non-compliance with reporting obligations and competitiveness could be weakened by the need to develop alternative suppliers.
1. verification of affectedness: Tacto supports the identification of affected products and suppliers.
2. supplier query and training: Automated query of relevant data from suppliers and support with correct implementation.
3. creation of the CBAM report: Tacto offers help with the creation of the CBAM report in XML form.
4. reporting: support with registration in the CBAM transitional register and uploading of the completed report.
5. forecast of CO2 costs: estimation of the certificate costs to be paid from 2026 onwards based on imports.
Tacto offers a future-oriented solution for the integration of CBAM into the supply chain strategy of medium-sized companies. By using a central platform, companies can not only increase their efficiency and minimize compliance risks, but also react flexibly to future regulatory changes. The solution makes it possible to continuously optimize all relevant processes while focusing on core competencies.
